So... Romantic at Sofitel

As editor for Regent Street Online, I’ve been lucky enough to do a review or two in my time, yet my afternoon spent experiencing the Valentine's package at So Spa at Sofitel Hotel has to take the biscuit. Or in this case, rose macaroons.

Located just off Lower Regent Street, Sofitel Hotel is a taste of the finest of French luxury, in the heart of London. The So Spa, recently recommended by The Telegraph newspaper no less, is the perfect blend of modern and traditional in décor, essential and indulging in its treatments.

With Valentine’s Day one week away, I popped along to see if the romantic package offered by the spa would be enough to inject that certain ‘je ne sais quois’ into any relationship. A rose petal foot ritual, followed by an all over body massage and deep cleansing facial, culminating in a relaxing hydrotherapy bath complete with kir royale and the aforementioned macaroons… Hold on, do I really need to take the time to explain that this is something you should do?

Just in case, I will. I certainly don’t mind reminiscing about the gorgeous foot spa by candlelight, complete with real rose petals. Honestly, this treatment alone felt so soothing, I instantly made a mental note to look after my tired editor’s feet more. Rushing around from reviews to interviews is all very well & good, but my feet probably don't appreciate the fact I’m always standing on them.

Next came the massage, a treatment to which I’m already a convert. One of the best things about So Spa, was their detail towards the point of pressure. Have you ever been to a massage where the pressure was such that it tickled more than it treated? This time around, my tired body was so treated I think for a split second I fell asleep. Absolute heaven. Ladies, if you feel confident to handle the competition, definitely recommend this to your man…

As much as I love a good massage though, the facial has to be my ‘cannot live without it’ beauty weakness. Maybe it’s just me, but I think there are fewer things more satisfying than having skin that feels so fresh and smooth you can’t help running your fingers over it and smiling to yourself. Just me? Ok. Well take my word for it, this particular facial delivers in abundance. So maybe try it before you judge my vanity. I promise you’ll run your fingers along your face so much, you’ll get no work done for days.

Which was exactly my problem upon leaving the salon. Sitting in the hydrotherapy bath, nibbling a rose macaroon and sipping my bubbly, left me so relaxed I began to wish I really was experiencing this in the romantic sense, getting ready for a romantic evening ahead, rather than my reality which involved returning to the office.

Sitting in that tub, I began to see the benefits of experiencing all this as a twosome. By the end of the two and a half hour experience, I really started to wish I had a big strong man alongside me, ready to carry me off in his arms.

Mainly because I was so relaxed, I wasn’t really sure I could still stand…
