'Gloth'... it doesn't really sound like the kind of word that one would usually associate with a high fashion look... but this season, autumn/winter 2009, 'Gloth' is quite frankly, the only way to go.
A result of glamour meeting goth chic, 'Gloth' combines the glitziest looks that fashion has to offer, with the darker side of style...
Everywhere you look, in every store on Regent Street, sequins are twinkling in the reflection of the store windows. If you want to ease into the 'Gloth' look, keep it light and colourful, with the Paintbox skirt from French Connection. This sequin houndstooth mini, with its multicolour details, is the perfect way to stand out in the deepest, darkest crowd.
If you want to shine brightly, but not quite that brightly, head to Topshop, with its girlie take on 'Gloth', in the form of the Flower Mesh Bolero. A lot of glitz, a touch of glamour, a little less goth.
If you think you might want to indulge your 'Gloth' style, Topshop, as usual, has something for everyone, with a vast array of the quintessential little black dress to add to your shopping bag along with the bolero... with emphasis on the black of course. Oasis are hot on their gothic heels however, with their Sequin shoulder pad number recommended by Grazia magazine as a 'must have' for the season.
When it comes to accessories, you can't go wrong with the new line at Folli Follie. The unique Sequinned lip clutch brings a playful touch to a rather serious style, whilst a gold belt from Reiss or a sparkly Alice band from Accessorize are also options to switch the look from gloomy to gorgeous.
With the release of movie 'New Moon', starring everyone's favourite vampire, Robert Pattinson, just around the corner, it was perhaps inevitable that homage would be paid to ‘the dark side’ through fashion.
Not that we mind of course. If 'Gloth' is good enough for the Hollywood 'A' List, then who are we to complain? In fact, now we’ve seen the dark side, we probably wouldn’t dare…
