A Great British Experience

The Regent Street Festival: A Great British Experience is one of the biggest, free, outdoor events on the calendar. Regent Street will be closed to traffic from 12 noon to 8pm, September 7 2008, welcoming people from all over the world.

Marching bands, fanfare trumpeters, pipe bands, live music, dance performances, a veteran car display, gourmet food stalls… are all just a taster of what one can expect on the day, plus much, much more!

With 32 flagship stores on Regent Street, the famous curve is one of the capital's top shopping destinations. To mark the occasion, stores will be offering an assortment of British themed in-store activities and promotions. Bose will play host to a James Bond themed afternoon, whilst Godiva will be selling selected fruits covered in delicious Belgian chocolate one can enjoy with traditional afternoon tea at Austin Reed.

Musically, Zavvi will be providing the soundtrack to the day, with British ‘cover bands’ performing live and 'one-to-watch' boy band Avenue, of X Factor fame, along with soul singer Jay Picton, will be stopping by to entertain revellers.

Regent Street is synonymous with shopping, so retailers and restaurants are offering a celebratory 10% off on the day. Regent Street food quarter, Heddon Street and Swallow Street, will also be involved in the festivities. Indulge in traditional British specials such as Fish and Chips at FishWorks and Sausages and Mash at The Living Room W1, with ice sculptures created by Absolut Ice Bar on Regent Street itself, complete with vodka pop up bar.

If Shakespeare was right, and music indeed be the food of love...  then perhaps the Regent Street Festival will inspire some romantic moments between couples on the day. It did for Sam Ornbo, who incorporated the view of the Piccadilly Lights into a quite the original marriage proposal...
