Fashion Boutique Folk on Lamb's Conduit Street in London has been awarded 'Best for Fashion' in the local shop category of the Telegraph Magazine Shop Awards 2009.
Voted for by readers of the Telegraph, the awards hold seven categories for national and online retailers, with this year the first time that three categories for local, independent shops have been added: best for fashion; best for home; and best for food and drink.
Mary Portas, shop reviewer for the Telegraph Magazine, said:
'We are delighted to present this award to Folk. I always say to independents, "Look at what your competition is? What do you offer that the big chains can't?" Invariably it comes down to the most incredible personal service - and picking up unique product that the chains can't find. The people at Folk understand this and that is why Telegraph readers voted for them.'
Folk opened in March 2007 and sells mainly its own brand of menswear, with a small range of womenswear and other, carefully selected designers, also supplying Liberty on Regent Street.
Folk managing director Fraser Shand couldn't be more thrilled:
"Wow, for our little place it feels like we've won an Oscar!"
