Celebrating ‘A taste of Spain’ on Regent Street, the distinctive Spanish spirit has been present on London’s famous shopping curve for two weeks already. Visitors to Regent Street since May 31st have been able to experience exotic Spanish dancing from The Canary Islands’, Carnival Queens, have listened to melodic live music from leading Gran Canarian timple player, Jose Antonio Ramos, and seen the stunning F1 Mercedes McClaren car in Heddon Street by sponsors of A Taste of Spain, Santander.
Yet there’s still a packed program over the next fortnight and many in-store Spanish promotions, wine tastings and competitions from a host of Regent Street stores including: Austin Reed, Bose, Gerry Weber,Hamleys, Penhaligons, Kent & Curwen, Hobbs, Hoss Intropia, Desigual, Mamas & Papas. Wednesday and Thursday night live entertainment continues on Heddon Street with two Spanish bands playing on the 20th and 21st June. (18:30-21:30) Headline act, Laxula who recently delighted crowds at the BBC World Music Awards, will be supported by three piece band, Andalus.
The following week will see entertainment from Andalucía on 27th-28th June also between 18:30-21:30. A flamenco band will perform each evening alongside Spanish violin and guitarist ensemble, Duo Savya.
Discover the new restaurants and bars in Heddon Street: Piccolino’s, The Absolut Ice Bar, Below zero, The Living Room, La locanda, Momo, Strawberry Moons and newly-opened Aubaine. If you haven’t yet sampled the delicious authentic tapas from Castile and Leon at The Club Bar and Dining on Warwick Street then you’re missing out! Guest chef at The Club Bar and Dining, Jesus Ramiro has worked alongside many big names in the gastronomic industry such as Walter Barba, Pascal Dequiret, Arzak and Michel Gerard. Since 2003 he has been working in the area of Castilla y Leon teaching and researching in the Taller de Cocina Ramiro’s in Valladolid. In 2006 he and his son opened the restaurant ‘Ramiro’s’ in the Museum of Science in Valladolid. Make sure you get to sample Ramiro’s culinary delights on his UK visit.
Spain’s gourmet delights will also spread to the Melia White House Hotel, near Regent’s Park, for two weeks. A brigade of chefs from Murcia will take over the kitchens from Monday 25th June to Friday 29th June. The Spanish menus will be available for dinner only so book soon to avoid disappointment.
Spanish Month is presented by the Spanish Tourist Office and the Regent Street Association and runs from Thursday 31 May to Thursday 28 June.
