Al-Fresco Adventures

With predictions for summer promising soaring temperatures, one can presume that a spot of al fresco dining will be on the cards, and if that be the case, where better than within the tranquility of the Regent Street Food Quarter.

Packed to the brim with award winning restaurants, take your pick of the many that offer dining on the terrace. Parallel to busy Regent Street, the Food Quarter should perhaps be referred to as the calm behind the storm, as opposed to before it, such is the serenity to be found here.

Heddon Street and Swallow Street comprise the Food Quarter. Both offer pedestrianised areas, and the aforementioned delightful cuisine…

No matter what takes your fancy on a particular day, you’ll find it here. From the continental flavours of Italian ‘ristorante’ Piccolino, to the tempting bar meals offered at The Living Room (or the sub zero temperatures of Below Zero) there is food for every type of taste bud.

If it’s the seductive tastes of fine seafood you feel like, FishWorks and Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill on Swallow Street can’t be beaten for excellence, with FishWorks even offering a fishmonger service in case you fancy a spot of al fresco in the comfort of your own garden, BBQ style.

For the vegetarians among you, Tibits has a fabulous spot in Heddon Street, with an area for alfresco eating suitable for up to 50 people. Laze away the afternoon indulging in the healthy food boat and organic wine, all the while on comfy and stylish Designer’s Guild cushioned benches.

French restaurant Aubaine has just extended its al-fresco terrace, testament to the popularity of the Food Quarter. When the sun shines upon Heddon Street and Swallow Street, and you sip a glass of wine and nibble a macaroon, you could almost imagine you were near the French Riviera…

... if it weren’t for the temptation of a spot of shopping in so many flagship stores nearby...
