Volstead is a 1920’s-inspired lounge bar, an oasis of elegance and sophistication in an increasingly hectic and jaded West End, a hedonistic party scene of the 1920’s, the fabled and oft-imitated Jazz Age.

An intimate venue, holding only 150, Volstead is named in ironic reference to Andrew Volstead, founder of the Prohibition Act.

This lounge bar, open from 7pm to 3am Tuesday to Saturday, reflects this era of underground glamour. There are deep banquettes, a small central dance floor and secluded hide-aways utilising lavish materials and the finest craftsmanship. Dark polished surfaces, lush leather and fabrics and fine veneers have been used to create a space inspired by Viennese, Bauhaus and traditional English architecture.

The food and drink offering at Volstead continues the motif of simple elegance with a nod to the 1920’s. The dining menu, available from 7pm includes updated classics such as Volstead Home Fries with sour cream and caviar, a Wagyu beef burger and truffled macaroni cheese, the ultimate in decadent comfort food.

The emphasis of the cocktail list for Volstead focuses on gins and bourbons, both for classic cocktails from the 1920’s and some contemporary favourites created by Andreas Tsanos. The bar stocks some of the oldest and most expensive bourbons and rye whiskeys available as well as an enviable champagne list.

As well as luxurious drinking and dining opportunities in a beautiful environment Volstead is also be a venue for excellent entertainment.  A jazz and swing inspired soundtrack provides the backdrop early evening with occasional hit and run performance from both emerging and established acts.

From 11pm a roster of impressive DJ’s will play edgy but accessible sets. Booking ahead and dressing up will be essential for what is sure to be a breath of fresh air to the early evening and late night London scenes.
