It was good news for British women everywhere, and the Regent Street Online editor in particular, when the announcement was made that Anthropologie was set to join the world’s most famous shopping street.

Expected late 2009, the time is nearly upon us when 158 Regent Street will become home to a mix of women’s fashion, accessories, home décor and decorative antiques.

More like a collection of independent boutiques than an international chain store, Anthropologie will seek to reflect the nature and history of the Regent Street site, incorporating reclaimed materials and featuring the work of local artists and artisans in store. The largest purveyor of decorative antiques and found objects in the United States, these will also have a major presence in the Regent Street store.

A quick stop by Anthropologie can make one wonder where the whole afternoon has gone… as happened to this editor one afternoon in New York’s Soho, when my spending money for the entire trip strangely disappeared quite suddenly. The wonderful mix of unique, feminine clothes, unusual home decorations (the Christmas selection is particularly exquisite) not to mention the chocolates with wrapping paper so pretty I had it framed, makes Anthropologie one addition to the street to be sure to mark on the calendar.
