Back by popular demand, West End VIP Day hit Regent Street Saturday 5 December... and it didn't disappoint.
The West End welcomed over 2 million shoppers for the 5th traffic-free VIP Day (which stands for Very Important Pedestrians), with over £200m predicted to have gone through the tills of West End stores on what retailers called “the best day’s trading in two years” and “the best traffic-free day ever”.
With both Regent Street and Oxford Street cleared of traffic, stores were pulling out all the stops to make it a day to remember for all the family.
This year was bigger and better than ever, with a new chill-out zone, live music stages, plus special shopper rewards and give-aways, for example new addition to the street, GIVe, the brainchild of fashion magnate George Davis, was offering free manicures and pedicures in store on the day.
Melanie Wright, who was shopping at Liberty said,
“I used to spend most Saturdays indulging in retail therapy and on average bought at least two new fashion items a week, but today is the first time I have been wardrobe shopping for three months. I came out for Christmas presents and then thought – my need is greater!”
VIP Day is fast becoming a 'must' on the festive West End calendar, so if you missed it this year, be sure you don't miss out in 2010!
