Fashion Week Favourites

Fashion is forever looking forward and with that in mind, it’s worth noting that another London Fashion Week lies just around the corner. The items we’ll be coveting in Autumn/Winter 2012 will be revealed in February which leaves little time to think about our Spring/Summer 2012 wardrobes. So in fear of publishing old news, an insight into the summer collections has become both a necessary and imminently pressing matter.

Home to Fashion Week favourites Burberry and Jaeger, Regent Street provides ample scope for the next season’s wardrobe. In September’s London Fashion Week, the spring collections were showcased and thankfully, your faithful editor was there to catch a glimpse of what’s in store in the months to come.

Having recently designed the uniform for staff at the Duchess of Cambridge’s new abode at Kensington Palace, Stuart Stockdale of Jaeger is speedily rocketing to success. Applying historic references to a modern cut, Stockdale infuses contemporary collections with old style glamour. In this case, the glitz of travel in the 1960s and 70s has been given a Jaeger re-jig. A seasonal palette of pastel blues, yellows and zesty orange hues add the subtle suggestion that blooming crocuses and daffodils are on the horizon while cotton shift dresses, three quarter length jump-suits and billowing midi skirts hint at a warm summer breeze and lazy days in the park. Add a jug of Pimms into the mix and your summer look is complete.

Christopher Bailey at Burberry injected an essence of the great British summer into his collection for Burberry Prorsum. Opting for warm, earthy hues in purple, burnt orange, green, brown and blue, Bailey subverted clichés and veered away from the eye watering neons that dominated September’s runways.

Again, midi dresses reigned supreme confirming that the midi is here to stay (for at least another season). The iconic trench coats were typically in abundance and as a refreshingly feminine contrast, fitted cropped jackets also featured. Figure hugging pencil skirts adorned with bold stripes caught the eye while the oversized jackets they were paired with added functionality.

A British summer is a wet summer after all.
Before packing for the city break in Milan over Easter, head to Jaeger on Regent Street for an outfit that will guarantee that you travel in style. For the quintessential British summer though, be sure to invest in a Burberry jacket. Team with a billowing midi-skirt and dress to impress come sun or showers.

London Fashion Weekend runs from 23-26 February. If you're not lucky enough to get in on the action during Fashion Week itself, why not go along to the weekend?
