Mary Katrantzou surprises Regent Street with a designer collaboration for Topshop that is a true reflection of what we see on the catwalk.
Launching in celebration of Topshop’s support of the NEWGEN scheme at London Fashion Week, (it’s been ten years now), Mary Katrantzou’s new line for the high street is set to be even bigger and better than the last. Bursting onto the scene in 2008, this Greek-born designer went from grad show to Fashion Week favourite within a year. Being granted NEWGEN sponsorship, the designer obsessed with distinct digital print has developed a covetable visual style. Think asymmetric silhouettes and striking motifs reminiscent of a beautifully decorated ming dynasty vase. More than just a dress, an item by Katrantzou makes a statement piece. Wear Katrantzou and you will undoubtedly attract attention (for all the right reasons of course).
Unlike many other designer-high-street collaborations, Katrantzou for Topshop refuses to be watered down. Back in November a snap of one of the fourteen items she’s produced for the store was released. It was an instant twitter sensation. Ladies and gentlemen this is the real deal. The teasing preview revealed a dress that could be mistaken for Katrantzou’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection (the best so far in our humble opinion).
Transported from the runway to the Topshop rails, there’s no fear that the brand’s signature aesthetic will be lost in translation. From the little that has been revealed, we’re expecting the real Mary Katrantzou. The cuts will be similar and the patterns and colours are set to be just as vibrant and undeniably alluring. Roll on February.
