Retro Minimalism

In keeping with the rest of the high street, H&M is to be inspired by retro influences this autumn, together with a modern mix of couture, elegant glamour and minimalism.

Classic British tailoring, 90’s grunge pieces and sexy shapes of the seventies are key references, with androgynous styles key for both men and women.

In the early 1970's fashion was glamorous. H&M says that this season it has taken its design starting point as this and has allowed itself to be inspired by style icons of the era. Steve McQueen, Robert Redford and Marisa Berenson all helped to create the slinky styles and expressive patterns on show in store this season.

Colours are dark and light neutrals, classic grey, blue tones and warm autumn hues such as amber and emerald green. Tweed, stripes, checks, paisley and graphic prints will ensure that whatever your shape and colouring, there will be something to add to your wardrobe.

For accessories, everything from loafers and boots are available, with bangles, chunky necklaces and wooden jewellery this editor’s personal favourites!

Editor’s tip: Wrap up in the collection’s couture scarves, gloves and woollen hats to really perfect that seventies chic.
