A perhaps welcome antidote to all the flirty, feminine styles on display this season is a wave of menswear-inspired dressing that is creeping into stores.
Apparent in the last few months in the form of the wide leg jean/trouser replacing the skinny look of the last few seasons, the trend is now set to really make its mark on the fashion front, in the form of the tuxedo.
The tuxedo has actually been a favourite for many a celebrity over the years. Katherine Hepburn kicked off the look, with Cate Blanchett, Sharon Stone and Angelina Jolie following ‘suit’ just a few examples of gorgeous women who know that menswear is the true key to unleashing a woman’s sexy side!
To get the look, pop into Hobbs and try on their plushy velvet saatin suit. By combining the Laura jacket and Martine trousers you will see for your self how stylish mixing sexuality with sever tailoring can really look. Make sure you don’t pair the suit with anything to 'straight', or ‘heavy’. Strike the right balance between masculine and feminine, team with a flirty shirt, perhaps with one with ruffles, like the Dianna shirt, also available at Hobbs (all items pictured).
For footwear, flats are a definite no-no. Reach for your heels on this occasion ― the higher and sparklier the better!
Other stores embracing the trend are Karen Millen, with their selection of high waist trousers, and the new Kate Moss for Top Shop range, due in stores on 25th October. The new collection carries items such as waistcoats in tweed, with grey wide leg trousers, also in tweed and a particular favourite is the self stripe shirt, ideal with the aforementioned trousers, or the black wool sailor trousers.
So there you have it, a tux is the way to go for your Christmas party this year. Not convinced?
Well, if Kate Moss says it is so… how much more proof does a girl really need?
