We may have only just flipped our calendars over to March, but here at Regent Street Online, we’re already planning our spring/summer wardrobes. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that last weekend many of us strangely spent our late February Saturday in various London parks taking in the sunshine, but, if we’re being completely honest, it has more to do with simply being excited for spring fashions. We’re so over layering!
To be honest, after enduring what has been dubbed by many as ‘the coldest winter in several decades’, we more than deserve to get excited about rediscovering our summer dresses, not to mention the skin we’ve been hiding beneath the collection of oversized knits we are now growing increasingly sick at the sight of.
Attracting quite the opposite reaction are the new spring collections on Regent Street. The trends and styles we worshipped on the catwalk last September are now near to arriving in our wardrobe, if only we could decide between them…
Vivid colours and sparkling whites in romantic styles are ours for the taking in stores right now. Asymmetric shapes, feminine cuts and our new favourite thing – the jumpsuit, are dominating the clothes rails. At the risk of sounding like a bad soap powder advert, keep your whites bright this spring, with Aquascutum (whose whole collection is white and blue this season) the place to head for whites of every style, cut and… well, you get the drift. For a spring coat, Aquascutum is also a firm favourite, with midnight blue romantic styles to perfectly complement those whites...
When it comes to the playsuit, Topshop is the one-stop-shop. Combining two trends is the Richard Nicol all white playsuit, yet the hot pant styles complete with frills are this editor’s personal favourite. Check them out in store today. Long, short, patterned and plain, Topshop clearly understand that the playsuit can be a tricky style to adopt, yet with so many options, you’re sure to find one that makes you look more babe, than ball.
Petal power, clichéd though it may be for spring, is, to quote The Ting Tings, ‘something un-ignorable’. Nothing else can quite match a floral pattern when it comes to making us feel that spring has well and truly arrived. Penelope and Monica Cruz printed them onto playsuits in their latest collection for Mango, and Topshop injected them onto a pencil skirt, complete with… ruffles. Sensing the spring theme yet? A simple flower hair clip can transform an outfit too, with Accessorize offering many different options. Don’t over do it though – think elegant, not eccentric.
On the colour front, go for an asymmetric style to make bold, block colour that little bit more interesting, such as this little purple number from Oasis. Maxi dresses are also still a fantastic option for spring and summer. Effortlessly stylish, opt for one with that fail safe addition of frills and ruffles to make sure it’s bang on trend for 2009, such as this coral number from Coast. With intricate little details, be it the cuts or bejewelled embellishments, don't forge that Zara also have many colurful spring options to really help you make a style statement.
Accessories for the warmer months are dainty, delicate… and white. Keep it simple with a leather day bag from Accessorize, or frill it up for evening with a smaller option from seasonal favourite Coast. For shoes, move away from the traditional sandals, and strut your stuff in the bold purple flats from Kurt Geiger. With brooch detail and peep toe style, they’re bound to get you noticed.
One thing is for certain, they’ll certainly stand out against all that white…
