Heddon Street - Executive Summary
Aim
- to devise a strategy which enables Heddon Street to act as a support to Regent Street
- to promote a Heddon Street Vision, of a vibrant restaurant and leisure based quarter, complementary to Regent Street, based on:
- creating an attractive, inviting environment
- creating a vibrant mix of catering from fine dining to casual dining and other uses to act as a 'people draw'
- improving the public's access to and awareness of Heddon Street
- ensuring Heddon Street is an integral part of the overall offer of Regent Street
- removing uses and activities which prevent the achievement of the Vision
Strategy
- re-let vacant properties to a range of tenants, which will reinforce the role of Heddon Street as the restaurant quarter for Regent Street, particularly in the short term to secure appropriate casual dining offers (see also catering strategy)
- improve pedestrian access to the street to encourage greater pedestrian flow
- reduce the intrusion of vehicles into the street, and control servicing vehicles more closely
- explore the opportunities for enhancing the physical environment of the street including the provision of shared surfaces
- bring the New Gallery back into use as quickly as possible
- promote Heddon Street as a restaurant quarter
