From the iconic trench coat to modern shearling styles, it's time to shop coats on Regent Street.
There are two ways to approach the art of buying a winter coat - invest and go classic or make it seasonal and go vogue. Fashion’s new train of thought when it comes to womenswear is all about the bomber and there are plenty of options to choose from, be they traditional (Coach and Calvin Klein) or a new tweak – see Lacoste’s dropped-length.
Of course, the other way to go is classic – you can’t beat a lean belted camel number (Gap) or a cosy shearling or biker hybrid (Reiss or Burberry). Faux fur is always a fun option: snuggle up into it while you bring colour to an otherwise grey day. Anthropologie’s Neapolitan number will do the job.
For the boys, Lemaire’s (at Liberty) tweedy style is seriously smart and a great investment that will work with everything – it’s a default coat if ever there was one. Meanwhile Reiss’ belted style has an old-world grandeur about it.
Elsewhere, Banana Republic will serve those whose wardrobe commands more practical needs. There, coat shopping isn’t so hard after all, really.
