The Spirit of Christmas by Regent Street – 17th November 2016

On Thursday 17th November 2016, Regent Street unveiled its spectacular festive light display, ’The Spirit of Christmas’ - the biggest of its kind in the capital.

Marking the start of the ‘most wonderful time of the year’, on Thursday 17th November unveiled ‘The Spirit of Christmas’, this year’s incredible Christmas lights installation.

Bigger and more twinkling than ever, the stunning showcase lights up the whole of W1, making this the biggest parade of Christmas lights in the capital.

Running the length of Regent Street and across Piccadilly into St James’s, finishing at Waterloo Place, this iconic stretch of London’s streets will be united for the festive period, truly bringing the spirit of Christmas to life.

The theme has been chosen to embrace the true meaning of the yuletide period, with giving, celebration and community at its core. It’s also a nod to Regent Street’s rich festive heritage, as it was the first ever street to display a central London Christmas lights scheme back in 1954.

The popular switch-on event saw appearances from Heart Breakfast presenters Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton, who led the star-studded show from 6pm.

Dressed in a floor length white sparkly dress, the gorgeous Rebecca Ferguson opened the show in her classic performance style, singing Don’t Want You Back and Superwoman, both from her new album.

Award-winning artist Tom Odell then took to the stage to perform his chart-topping hit Real Love and his brand new single Silhouette.

As the clock ticked to 6.50pm, Holly Willoughby arrived on stage to greet crowds and push the switch, lighting up the stunning display of 300,000 sparkling LED lights and officially welcoming the ‘Spirit of Christmas’ to Regent Street.
