We don’t usually toot our own horn but we’re proud to share that The Crown Estate and Westminster City Council have unveiled plans to sustainably transform Regent Street. Read on to learn more about their shared vision for a greener, healthier West End.
Taking place from now until Christmas, the work in motion is designed to deliver significant improvements for safety, accessibility, and air quality, with these positive changes hoping to make your time on the street even more enjoyable.
The first measure is wider pavements – introduced initially as part of the street’s COVID-19 measures to support social distancing. Moving forward, the ambition for this change is to offer more space for people like you who shop, work and live on Regent Street and the surrounding areas. So, no need to fear the crowds this festive season, there will be increased space for window browsers and seasoned shoppers alike.
The traffic will also be reduced to a single vehicle lane in each direction, to cut down on the number of vehicles on Regent Street. As part of this planning, we’re also including cycle lanes and new cycle parking hubs to make cycling in your central London neighbourhood safer and more enjoyable. You can read about a new cycle concierge parking service, BIKE-DROP, here. Ensuring improved accessibility and safety is crucial for all who visit us, so we’ll also be bettering bus stops to offer enhanced accessible boarding and further space for waiting.
Last but not least, we will be planting sustainably, offering more greenery around the area helping to boost biodiversity and improve air quality. Please take the time to soak up all these changes and settle down on new seating that will be popping up along the length of the iconic curve.
We hope these plans will offer you even more reason to visit Regent Street – whether popping into one of our flagship stores to buy a treat for yourself or a loved one, catching up over lunch with a friend, or meeting an old work colleague for a drink (or two). Wellness warriors will already be well-aware of the brilliant brands helping to keep you fit and healthy that call Regent Street home, but if you’re looking for a little extra-activity, you can get inspired by the full list here.
