Honouring Heroes: VE Day 80 on Regent Street
This May, Regent Street joins the nation in commemorating 80 years since Victory in Europe Day, a landmark moment of peace, hope and resilience.
With so much history woven into our streets, it is only fitting that we mark this milestone in the heart of London. Union Jack flags are flying proudly above Regent Street, setting a stirring scene for a month of celebration.
Just a short walk away, you can witness the grandeur of a military parade like no other. On Monday 5 May, 1,300 service personnel will march from Parliament Square to Buckingham Palace, passing iconic locations close to Regent Street. The celebrations will continue overhead, with a stunning flypast featuring historic WWII aircraft and the Red Arrows.
Later in the week, on 8 May, London will come alive with poignant tributes. Horse Guards Parade will host a spectacular concert, bringing together music, readings and Churchill’s famous "war is over" speech, reimagined for today. Westminster Abbey, not far from our street, will hold a special service of thanksgiving, recognising the sacrifices made and celebrating the peace we enjoy today.
Throughout the city, communities will light beacons and ring bells in a symbolic call for unity. Traditional street parties will capture the joyful spirit of 1945.
As we honour the past, Regent Street continues to celebrate the heroes of today - join us this May to be part of a truly historic moment.
