For International Women’s Day, we’re marking the occasion with some of the brilliant minds behind your favourite shops and restaurants.

Meet the women whose stories have helped bring a little bit of wonder to Regent Street, one boutique, concept and Michelin star at a time.

Stacey Wood, King & Tuckfield

Though King & Tuckfield launched in 2016, the inspiration behind the brand came long before. Growing up between two very different wardrobes - her grandmother Joan’s life as a ballerina and her father Graham’s as a tailor, paratrooper and miner - Stacey was drawn to fashion from a young age.

Not only did the opposing styles and purposes of her family members’ clothing choices completely fascinate her, it also led to her exploring themes like intention, longevity and sustainability, bucking against the fast fashion trends that dominated the landscape.

As well as shaping her own story, Stacey chose to honour her grandmother and father’s history throughout her store - from the King & Tuckfield name (inspired by each of their surnames), to the elevated utilitarian products she’s worked hard to design and develop.

Nieves Barragán, Sabor

Down Heddon Street, you’ll find one of London’s most exciting dining spaces - and at the heart of it all is Nieves Barragán Mohacho.

Born and raised in Bilbao, Nieves’ approach to food takes on the flavour and ritual she experienced growing up. Moving to London in her twenties, she worked her way through some of the city’s most respected kitchens before opening her own restaurant, Sabor, in 2018. Within a year, it had a Michelin star.

Nieves is fiercely proud of regional Spanish cooking and honours it with each floor of Sabor, tailored to a different part of the country. The easy-breezy tapas culture and the theatre of the asador are the real-life result of her story.

Ana Patricia Nikaido, Aromaria

Back in 2010, Ana Patricia Nikaido was writing a novel about a perfumer who loses her sense of smell… little did she know it would lead her to a whole new career. While writing, she immersed herself in perfumery, travelling to Grasse in the south of France (often labelled the perfume capital of the world), spending time in ateliers and learning from some of the industry’s most respected noses.

After years of research and collaboration, she found herself as less of a writer and more of a creator in her own right - and with that, Aromaria was born.

Khun Patara Sila-On, Patara

Khun is responsible for introducing refined Thai dining to London decades before it became mainstream. Since founding her first restaurant in Bangkok in 1973, she's become an icon of the industry as well as a familiar face on TV. Patara restaurant began its life in London in 1990, and you can still find a slice of Khun's authentic Thai cuisine tucked away on Maddox Street today.

Justine & Amanda, Aligné Studio

When Justine Brochard and Amanda Hendrick met during Pilates teacher training in 2022, it quickly became clear they were on the same wavelength. Both had spent years working in the wellness and fitness world, but what really connected them was their desire for a community that felt connected, welcoming and caring. So… they built one!

After planning their direction, sourcing the perfect expertly-attentive instructors and choosing the right location, they settled on Great Portland Street as the home of their joint new venture, Aligné Studio.

Judith Milgrom, Maje, & Évelyne Chetrite, Sandro

Growing up between Morocco and Paris, Judith was deeply influenced by the mix of influences, from romantic to grounded, expressive to wearable. She launched Maje in 1998, directing her brand towards women who lean into conventional style whilst playing by their own rules, using independence and creativity as guiding principles.

If you've heard of Judith, you're likely to also know her sister, Évelyne. With a keen eye for tailoring and a love of all things Parisian, she established Sandro as a way of bringing a modern, polished wardrobe to a ready-to-wear market. From a small Paris boutique in the 1980s to their flagship store on Regent Street, Évelyne’s vision has certainly travelled well.

Maria Bernheim, Bernheim Gallery

After opening her first gallery in Zürich in 2015, Maria began to build her reputation as someone who backs artists with strong, individual points of view rather than flowing with seasonal market trends. Since the start of her journey, she’s set out to showcase international artists with distinct voices while also giving emerging talents a platform alongside established names.

Maria’s story continued when she joined London’s art world in 2023, opening Bernheim Gallery on New Burlington Street. We’re so excited to see where it continues and what talent she picks out next!
