The Pride behind the Performance
In the heart of London’s business world, one Engagement Manager is redefining what it means to bring your full self to work - and to life.
By day, they’re shaping strategy in a corporate office; by night, they transform into Aeliana, a fearless drag queen using performance to celebrate identity, community, and unapologetic self-expression.
Can you tell us your job title?
By day, I’m a B2B Engagement Manager based in London—building partnerships, driving strategy, and making things happen. By night (and sometimes brunch), I transform into Aeliana, a drag queen who lives for the stage, the spotlight, and the storytelling.
Can you tell us a little about your journey in discovering and embracing your identity?
It’s been a journey, I would say like building layers, almost like contouring, but for the soul (dramatic, I know). I grew up navigating expectations and assumptions, but over time I learned that authenticity is the most powerful form of expression. Embracing my identity meant giving myself permission to be complex, creative, and unapologetically queer and that led me on to creating Aeliana.
What does being part of the LGBTQIA+ community mean to you personally?
It means family. It means resilience. It means being part of a legacy of people who dared to live out loud. Whether I’m in a boardroom or a dressing room, I carry that sense of community with me and fly the flag for everyone who DARES to be different.
What inspired your drag persona, and how does performing empower you?
Aeliana was born from a desire to embody power, glamour, and a little bit of chaos—in the best way. She’s bold, she’s fierce, and she’s not afraid to take up space and rock the stage with her mutant lungs and vocal cords. Performing as Aeliana lets me channel parts of myself that don’t always get airtime in the real world. I often compare myself to Superman, by day I am Clarke Kent, working in an office, but by night, I am Superman, on goes my costume and I am ready to stand up to the world - it’s liberation in lashes (!)
Have you faced any challenges or discrimination as a drag performer or LGBTQIA+ individual? How did you overcome them?
Absolutely. There have been moments of being underestimated, misjudged, or even dismissed—both in and out of drag. I was once hired for an office job, however, the ask from them was for me to no wear make-up to the office, like I did in my interview. I obviously declined, however, I’ve learned to turn those moments into fuel. I surround myself with people who uplift me, and I use my platform, whether it’s a client meeting or a cabaret, to challenge norms and celebrate difference.
What’s one moment in your career or personal life that made you feel truly proud?
Walking into a corporate event in full drag and being embraced—not just tolerated—was a moment I’ll never forget. It was a reminder that visibility matters, and that authenticity can be a bridge, not a barrier.
What does Pride Month mean to you?
Pride Month is a celebration, a protest, and a promise. It’s about honouring those who paved the way, uplifting those still finding their voice, and reminding the world that we’re not going anywhere. For me, it’s also a time to reflect on how I can use both my professional and creative platforms to advocate for inclusion.
What would you say to someone who’s struggling to come out or accept their identity?
You are not broken. You are not alone. Take your time, there’s no deadline on self-discovery. Find your people, even if it starts online. And remember: the world needs your light, exactly as it is.
From the boardroom to the spotlight, Aeliana shows that authenticity is power. In both heels and business shoes, their journey is a reminder that Pride is about showing up as you are—and making space for others to do the same.
